The HP LaserJet Pro M402n MICR Bundle combines a compact business printer with specialty magnetic toner for payroll, vendor payments, accounts payable, and other check-printing applications. Its included full-yield 26A MICR cartridge supplies very high-quality toner for your check-printing workflow.
With fast monochrome output, two standard paper trays, and USB or wired network connectivity, the M402n also handles invoices, payment vouchers, reports, and everyday correspondence. A 1.2 GHz processor and 128 MB memory support daily office printing in a compact desktop footprint.
Specialty toner for check printing.
MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. MICR toner contains magnetic material used to print the machine-readable characters along the bottom of a check, including routing and account information.
The included toner provides the magnetic printing component. Your check-printing software supplies the appropriate MICR font, character spacing, and layout. Use laser-compatible check stock and validate a sample before printing a full batch.

Print at up to 40 ppm on Letter or 38 ppm on A4. First-page output as fast as 5.6 seconds from ready helps with individual checks and short jobs throughout the day.

Connect directly to a computer using USB 2.0, or share the printer through its built-in RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet connection. Wired networking supports access from compatible computers across your office.
Flexible paper handling.
A 100-sheet multipurpose tray and 250-sheet main tray accommodate suitable check stock and office paper. An optional 550-sheet feeder expands total input capacity to 900 sheets.
Simple everyday operation.
A two-line backlit LCD provides status information and menu access. HP Auto-On/Auto-Off technology helps manage energy consumption, while the compact design fits comfortably into many office workspaces.
M402n configuration details.
This is a print-only model with USB and wired Ethernet. It does not have built-in Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, scanning, copying, or faxing.
Two-sided printing is manual and requires reinserting the paper. The rear USB host port supports optional job storage; it is not a front walk-up USB document-printing port.

- Prepare the MICR cartridge. Follow the cartridge installation guidance and remove any shipping protection as directed.
- Set up your check layout. Select the appropriate MICR font, paper size, tray, and alignment in your check-printing software.
- Validate a sample. Confirm print quality, placement, account information, and MICR readability before running a batch.
- Use MICR replacement toner. Maintain check-printing capability with an M402n-compatible MICR cartridge when replacement is needed.
