Important Installation Information
Professional installation by an experienced printer technician is recommended. Always turn off the printer, disconnect the power cable, and follow proper electrostatic-discharge precautions before physically installing or removing internal components.
After installing the HDD, turn on the printer and allow several minutes for initialization. If the printer starts normally, no additional action may be necessary. If the Pre-Boot menu or a “Disk Not Bootable” message appears, complete the firmware installation below.
Firmware Installation Instructions

Prepare the firmware USB drive.
The included USB drive may already contain the required firmware. If you need to download the latest available firmware, visit:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/printers
Locate the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M880 and download the appropriate firmware upgrade file. The firmware file will have a
.bdlextension. -
Copy the firmware file to the USB drive.
Copy the
.bdlfirmware file to the root directory of a standard FAT-formatted USB flash drive. Do not place the file inside a folder.Use a USB flash drive without a CD-ROM partition.

Insert the USB drive.
Locate the USB port on the printer’s control panel and insert the prepared USB flash drive.

Turn on the printer.
If the control panel displays
Error 99.09.xx: Disk Not Bootable, press OK to continue. -
Open the Administrator menu.
Wait for the Pre-Boot menu to appear. Press the down-arrow button until
3 Administratoris highlighted, and then press OK. -
Select Download.
Press the down-arrow button until
1 Downloadis highlighted, and then press OK. -
Select USB Thumbdrive.
Press the down-arrow button until
3 USB Thumbdriveis highlighted, and then press OK. -
Select the firmware file.
If multiple
.bdlfiles appear, use the down-arrow button to highlight the firmware file prepared in Step 1. Press OK to begin the transfer.If no
.bdlfile appears, confirm that the file is in the USB drive’s root directory. If necessary, try a different FAT-formatted USB flash drive. -
Wait for the transfer to finish.
Do not turn off the printer or remove the USB drive during the transfer. When the firmware transfer finishes,
Completewill appear on the control panel. -
Restart the printer.
Turn off the printer, remove the USB flash drive, and turn the printer back on. Allow several minutes for the printer to initialize and complete the firmware installation.
If the firmware installation is unsuccessful, repeat the process using a freshly downloaded firmware file. If it fails again, contact HP Support or a qualified HP printer technician.
This replacement is intended to correct 49.xx, 98.xx, and 99.xx errors related to the HDD, firmware, or boot device. Error codes caused by unrelated printer components may require additional diagnosis or repair.
