The 5851-8961 board is identified in HP service documentation as the Scanner Control Interconnect Board, or SCIB. It may also be described as the Scanner Control Board, SCB, or PCA-SCIB.

This board provides the electronic interface between the scanner assembly and the printer’s formatter. A failing board can interrupt scanner initialization, corrupt communication with the main processor, or prevent the flatbed scanner and Automatic Document Feeder from operating correctly.

Diagnose before replacing

Scanner errors can also be caused by outdated firmware, an improperly seated flat-flexible cable, damaged connectors, the formatter, or the scanner assembly itself. Power the printer down, disconnect power, and inspect every SCB and formatter connection before replacing the board.

Flat-flexible cables use gated Zero Insertion Force connectors. Open the connector gate before removing or inserting a cable, then close the gate after the cable is fully seated.

This is an electrostatic-discharge-sensitive circuit board. Installation should be performed by a qualified printer technician using proper grounding and ESD precautions.
