Paper in Tray 2 — but the printer can't see it?

RM2-5375 is commonly replaced when the small plastic tab on the Tray 2 paper-detection flag becomes physically broken. Once the tab breaks, the flag can rotate beyond its intended position and the printer may no longer correctly detect that paper is loaded in Tray 2.

The assembly sits in the Tray 2 paper path and mechanically responds to the presence of paper in the cassette. Movement of the flag allows the printer's control system to determine whether media is available before attempting a print job.

A small part that can create a very frustrating problem.

Because the flag physically rests against the paper stack, damage to the molded pivot or retaining tab can prevent the flag from returning to its correct position. The result can look like an electrical sensor failure even though the actual problem is simply the broken plastic flag assembly.

RM2-5375 should not be confused with the Tray 2 pickup roller, separation roller or complete 250-sheet cassette. Inspect the paper flag and confirm your existing part number before ordering.
